Triac Light Switch as a dimers


The series of light switches this time slightly different from the voltage of work. The series of light switches can work directly on the AC power network. Light switches are using the main component of TRIAC and LDR. The circuit is very simple and the components were sold in the market.

If you want a light reception sensitivity of this circuit can be arranged then the 3.3 MOhm resistor can be replaced with a variable resistor. For more details can be seen from the following series of images.

With Triac Light Switch series is as dimers, but dimers control performed by the reception of light around the LDR. The lower the intensity cayaha received LDR then  bright lights. For installation LDR need to be considered so as not exposed to light from the lamp directly.

Touch Switch II Circuit Diagram


This circuit uses a 555 timer as the bases of the touch switch. You can learn more about 555 timers in the Learning section on my site. When the plate is touched the 555 timer is triggered and the output on pin 3 goes high turning on the LED and the buzzer for a certain period of time. The time that the LED and the buzzer is on is based on the values of the capacitor and resistor connected to pin 6 & 7. The 10M resistor on pin 2 causes the the circuit to be very sensitive to the touch.

AC Mains Bistable Switch


AC Mains Bistable Switch Circuit Diagram. This AC mains-operated bistable  switch turns on or turns off a  device using a miniature neon  lamp and a few discrete components.  This switch can be used for control pan-els, appliances and lighting controls.  A push-to-on switch is used to  light up the neon lamp. The light emit-ted by the neon lamp, in turn, enables  the switching action of the circuit. Use  of a 555 timer wired for bistable operation makes the circuit act as a bistable  switch.

The neon lamp (NL1) and the  push-to-on switch (S1) are directly connected to 230V AC mains. The 12V DC  supply for timer 555 (IC1) is derived  from 230V AC mains through capacitive dropper C1, resistor R1 and a 12V  zener diode. IC1 works as a flip-flop  circuit, with the signal at its output  pin 3 toggling every time it receives a  pulse at its pins 2 and 6. 

The operation of the circuit is simple. When you press switch S1 momentarily, the neon lamp glows, making  phototransistor T1 conduct to provide  a pulse at pins 2 and 6 of IC1.  When switch S1 is pressed, the output of IC1  goes high and LED1 glows. Pressing S1  again makes the output of IC1 low and  LED1 stops glowing.

In place of LED1, you can use an  optodiac or suitable relay (not shown  in the circuit) along with a suitable  driver circuit to drive AC loads. Assemble the circuit on a general-purpose PCB with the neon lamp and  the phototransistor housed in a small  black tube isolated from the external  light source, and enclose in a suitable  cabinet. Fix switch S1 on the  front panel of the cabinet,  and mains power cord at  the rear. At the rear, also fix  a 3-pin socket to connect the  AC load. 

Caution.  Take care  when operating this circuit  as it is directly connected to  230V AC mains. Better still,  don’t attempt this circuit  if you have no experience  in handling high-voltage  circuits.

Switch ON OFF Touch or with Push Button Circuit Diagram


Here we have three choices, with which we can make electronic switches that use our touch or pressing (push button). We thus exploit the very big resistance of entry, that present the gates CMOS. In the fig.1 we have two gates NAND or NOR (IC1), connected as R-S flip-flop. Just as we press the switch S1, the exit 3 it becomes [H], even it is maintained in this situation.

To change the situation, it should we press switch S2. Now exit 3, takes price (L), reversely exit 4 becomes (H). In order to we maintain the situation that we want, we can connect at parallel with the corresponding switch, a capacitor C=100nF. This entry will always drive the corresponding exit to logic (L), immediately afterwards the benefit of supply to the circuit.

In the fig. 2, we have a circuit of inverter CMOS, in the entry of which is applied logic situation (H), from the resistance R, which the other end of, is in the supply. Exit 2 has situation (L).

When we press switch S2, in the entry of 3 IC2, we have situation (L), this it goes to the ground, the exit now becomes (H). This situations are maintained as long as we keep pressed switch S2 and they change immediately hardly the touch. If we want opposite logic operation then it will be supposed we connect the resistance R, in the ground and switch S2, in the supply. The same logic we will have if we replace gate IC2, with a gate NAND or NOR, as it appears in the fig. 3, the result is the himself.

Because the situation in the case of fig.1 and 3, does not remain constant and change when we pull our finger , in order to him we retain, it should we connect a J-K or D flip-flop as T, after the IC2 and IC3. Thus the flip-flop, will change situation, each time where we will touch the switch or will touch the contacts and him it will retain.

All the switches can be replaced with contacts, it is enough we replace also resistances R with the price of 10MΩ. The Resistances R when we use pressing switches can are, from 100KΩ until 1MΩ. Because when we use contacts instead of switches, the noise can turn on the gates of fig. 2 and 3, then can place a capacitor 100nF, parallel with the contacts.[via]

Mini RS232 Data Switch


Only simple materials and a little bit of skill are needed to build an RS232 switch. All that you need are two 9-way sub-D plugs with solder pins, a small piece of sheet aluminium, two sets of screw retainer posts, a 4-pole double-throw switch, a strain relief sleeve and a suitable plastic connector shell for a 25-way sub-D connector, with both in-line and right-angle cable entries (such as Conrad Electronics #711322). What is important is that the side cable entry together with its associated strain relief leaves enough room for the switch. If necessary, you may have to cut away a few square millimetres of the sidewall or a few ribs of the plastic shell.

The switch is operated via the in-line cable opening, as can be seen from the photo. A suitable switch with an overall length of 29 mm can be found in the Conrad catalogue under order number 708232. The only modification that must be made to the connector shell is to drill two holes for the retaining screws for the switch (M2.6 screws) at a spacing of 24 mm.

Connect the two sub-D connectors together using the piece of aluminium and the screw retainer posts. Then solder the cable to the connectors and the switch as indicated. The two connectors are wired somewhat differently. While the upper sub-D plug is connected 1:1 with the input cable (with the switch in the appropriate position), the DCD, DTR, DSR and RI pins of the lower connector are left open. This is because RTS and CTS are fully sufficient for handshaking, as long as DTR and DSR are connected to each other. The only leads that are switched are RXD, RTS, TSD and CTS. The ground potential is fed from the cable to both connectors. After everything has been properly soldered together, you can fit everything into the cable shell as shown.

Simple Cell Phone Controlled Audio Video Mute Switch


This is a project of simple circuit of the cell phone-controlled audio/video mute switch. This cell-phone-controlled audio/ video mute switch is highly useful in automobiles. The circuit automatically disconnects power supply to the audio/video system whenever the mobile handset is lifted off the holder for making or receiving a call. You can use any readily available cell-phone holder with some mi-nor alterations or fabricate it yourself as shown in Fig. 1.

The circuit is wired around IC LM555 (IC1), the CMOS version of timer NE555, as shown in Fig. 2. IC1 is used as a medium current line driver with either an inverting or non-inverting output. It can sink (or source) current of up to 50 mA only, so take care while handling it. The audio/video system is connected to the circuit via normally opened (N/O) contacts of the relay.

When the cell phone is in its holder, LDR1 does not receive any light from white LED1 and its resistance is high. As a result, the voltage at pin 2 of IC1 re-mains high to provide a low output at pin 3. The low output of IC1 activates relay RL1 and the audio/video system gets power supply via its N/O contacts. LED3 glows to indicate that the audio/video system is ‘on.’  When the handset is taken off the holder, light rays from LED1 fall on LDR1 and its resistance decreases. As a result, the voltage at pin 2 of IC1 de-creases to provide a high output at its pin 3. The high output of IC1 deactivates relay RL1 and the audio/video system does not get power supply. LED2 glows to indicate that the audio/video system is ‘off.’   Preset VR1 is used to control the sensitivity of the circuit. Zener diode ZD1 is used for protecting white LED1 from the higher voltage. The circuit works off a 12V car battery. Switch S1 can be used to manually switch on/off the audio/video system.

Project of Long Delay Stop Switch Circuit Diagram


This is a Project of Long-Delay Stop Switch Circuit Diagram. This Long-Delay Stop Switch Circuit Diagram presettable times for train stops in stations are indispensable if you want to operate your model railway more or less realistically according to a timetable. This circuit shows how a 555 timer can be used with a relatively small timing capacitor to generate very long delay times as necessary by using a little trick (scarcely known among model railway electronic technicians): pulsed charging of the timing net-work. Such long delays can be used in hidden yards with through tracks, for instance.  As the timer is designed for half-wave operation, it requires only a single lead to the transformer and one to the switching track or reed contact when used with a Märklin AC system (H0 or H1). The other lead can be connected to any desired grounding point for the common ground of the track and lighting circuits.

As seen from the outside, the timer acts as a monostable flip-flop. The output (pin 3) is low in the quiescent state. If a negative signal is applied to the trigger input (pin 2), the output goes high and C4 starts charging via R3 and R4. When the voltage on C4 reaches 2/3 of the supply voltage, it discharges via an internal transistor connected to pin 7 to 1/3 of the supply voltage and the output (pin 3) goes low. The two threshold values (1/3 and 2/3) are directly proportional to the supply voltage. The duration of the output signal is independent of the supply voltage: t= 1.1(R4 + R5) × C4 

if the potentiometer is connected directly to the supply line (A and B joined). The maximum delay time that can be generated using the component values shown in the schematic diagram is 4.8 minutes. How-ever, it can be increased by a factor of approximately 10 if the timing network is charged using positive half-waves of the AC supply voltage (reduced to the 10–16-V level) instead of a constant DC voltage. 

The positive half-waves of the AC voltage reach the timing network via D2, the transistor, and D3. Diode D3 prevents C4 from being discharged between the pulses. The total resistance of R4 and R5 should not be too high (no more than 10 MΩ if possible), since electrolytic capacitors (such as are needed for C4) have significant leakage currents. Incidentally, the leakage current of aluminium electrolytic capacitors can be consider-ably reduced by using a supply voltage well below the rated voltage. Capacitor C6 is intended to suppress noise. It forms a filter network in combination with an internal voltage-divider resistor.
If a vehicle happens to remain standing over the reed switch so the magnet holds the contacts constantly closed, the timer will automatically be retriggered when the preset delay times out. In this case the relay armature will not release and the locomotive will come to the ‘end of the line’ in violation of the timetable. This problem can be reliably eliminated using R6, R7 and C5. This trigger circuit ensures that only one trigger pulse is generated, regardless of how long the reed switch remains closed. RC network R8/C7 on the reset pin ensures that the timer behaves properly on switch-on (which is far from being something to be taken for granted with many versions of the 555 or 556 dual timer).
Reed switches have several special characteristics that must be kept in mind when fitting them. The contact blades, which are made from a ferromagnetic material, assume opposite magnetic polarities under the influence of a magnetic field and attract each other. Here the position and orientation of the magnet, the distance between the magnet and the reed switch, and the direction of motion of the magnet relative to the switch are important factors. The fragility of the glass hous-ing and the thermal stress from soldering (stay at least 3 mm away from the glass housing) require a heat sink to be used between the soldering point and the glass/metal seal. A suitable tweezers or flat-jawed pliers can be used for this pur-pose. If you need to bend the leads, use flat-jawed pliers to protect the glass/metal seal against mechanical stresses. 

Matching magnets in various sizes are available from toy merchants and electronics mail-order firms. They should preferably be fitted underneath the loco-motive or carriage. However, the magnet can also be fitted on the side of a vehicle with a plastic body. In this case the reed switch can be hidden in a mast, bridge column or similar structure or placed in a tunnel, since the distance must be kept to less than around 10 mm, even with a strong magnet. If fitting the circuit still presents problems (especially with Märklin Z-gauge Mini-Club), one remedy is to generate the trigger using a unipolar digital Hall switch, such as the Siemens TLE4905L or Allegro UGN3120. To avoid coupled-in interference, the stop timer should be fitted relatively close to the Hall sensor (use screened cable if necessary). Pay attention to the polarity of the magnet when fitting it to the bottom of the vehicle. With both types of sensors, the South pole must point toward the front face of the Hall IC (the face with the type marking). The North pole is sometimes marked by a dab of paint. Generally speaking, the polarity must be determined experimentally. 

Fitting the circuit is not a problem with Z-gauge and 1-gauge tracks, since the distance between the iron parts (rails) and the Hall switch is sufficiently large. In an HO system, some modifications must be made to the track bed of the Märklin metal track. Cut a suitably sized ‘window’ between one wheel rail and the centre rail in order to prevent secondary magnetic circuits from interfering with the operation of the sensor. Keep the distance between the magnet and the case of the Hall switch between 5 and 10 mm, depending on the strength of the magnet, to ensure reliable actuation.

Simple Remote Control Mains Switch


As the only electronics engineer in my  =family and circle of friends, it is some-times not possible to evade an appeal for help. This time the request came from a friendly elderly lady in a retirement home. In her room the light switch by the door  and the pull cord above the bed operate the light fitting on the ceiling in the middle of the room. However, she would prefer that her standing lamp was operated  by these switches instead, since she does not actually have a light fitting mounted  on the ceiling. This standing lamp has an  on/of f switch in the power cord and is  plugged into a power point. However, it  stands rather far from the bed so that she  always has to find her way in the dark. A  wireless operated power point is not really a consideration, because it is just a matter of time before the remote is lost. Or maybe not?

Behold a feasible circuit. Buy a wireless power point and an enclosure that is big enough for the remote control and a small piece of prototyping board. On the proto-typing board build the circuit according to the accompanying schematic and (care-fully) open the remote control and solder wires to the push buttons for ‘on’ and ‘off’.  Measure if these are polarised and if that is  the case connect them to the 4N25 opto-couplers as shown in the schematic, where  pin 5 has a higher voltage than pin 4. 

The operation is as follows. The lady operates the pull cord or light switch to turn the light on. This causes the mains voltage to be applied to the transformer. The relay is activated which charges C1. While C1 charges, a small current flows through optocoupler 1. The result is that the ‘on’ button on the remote control is pressed.  The remote control switches the corresponding power point on and to which the  standing lamp is connected. The standing  lamp will therefore now turn on. Capacitor C2 is charged at the same time. If the lady pulls the cord again, or if she operates the  switch near the door, the relay will de-energise and C2 discharges across optocoupler  #2. This operates the ‘off’ contact of the  remote control and the light goes out. 

The remote control continuous to operate from its normal battery and the white enclosure is attached to the ceiling in place of the light fitting. Diode D1 ensures that C1 is discharged when the relay de-energises. D2 ensures that C2 cannot discharge across the relay, but only across optocoupler 2.

Mat Switch Circuit Diagram


This simple circuit produces a warning beep when somebody crosses a protected area in your home or office. The switch, hidden be-low the floor mat, triggers the alarm when the person walks over it.

The circuit uses a conductive foam as the switch. It can be two small pieces of conductive pads usually used to pack sensitive ICs as antistatic cover. Alternatively, you can make the switch by coating conducting carbon ink on two small pieces of a copper-clad board.

When the circuit is in standby mode, transistor T1 does not conduct, since its base is floating. When the person walks, the switch is pressed and current flows through R1 and the switch to provide positive bias to transistor T1. Transistor T1 conducts and its collector voltage drops, which acts as a negative trigger input for the monostable wired around IC NE555 (IC1).

IC1 outputs a pulse of fifty-seconds duration with preset values of R4 and C3. This pulse is applied to the buzzer through transistor T2. The buzzer sounds a warning beep on unauthorised entry. The pulse duration can be changed to the desired value by changing the values of R4 and C3. Resistor R2 in the circuit makes the trigger pin of IC1 high to prevent false triggering.

Assemble the circuit on a general-purpose PCB and enclose in a plastic case. Use a 9V battery to power the circuit. Connect the touchpad switch with the PCB and hide under the mat at the entrance. The PCB can be mounted on the nearby wall.

Make the switch carefully using conducting foam or copper clad coated with conducting ink. Place the two pieces with their conducting surface facing each other. Solder carefully a thin copper electric wire and ensure that it makes contact when the two plates touch together on pressing. Provide two 1cm rubber tabs between the plates to avoid touch in the standby mode.

Video Switch for Intercom System


Nowadays a lot of intercom units are  equipped with video cameras so that you can  see as well as hear who is at the door. Unfortunately, the camera lens is perfectly placed  to serve as a sort of support point for people  during the conversation, with the result that  there’s hardly anything left see in the video  imagery.  One way to solve this problem is to install two cameras on the street side instead only  one, preferably some distance apart. If you  display the imagery from the two cameras  alternately, then at least half of the time you  will be able to see what is happening in front  of the door. Thanks to the video switch module described  here, which should be installed on the street  side not too far away from the two cameras,  you need only one monitor inside the house and you don’t need to install any additional video cables.

Along with a video switch, the circuit includes  a video amplifier that has been used with  good results in many other Elektor projects,  which allows the brightness and the contrast  to be adjusted separately. This amplifier is  included because the distance between the  street and the house may be rather large, so it is helpful to be able to compensate for cable attenuation in this manner.  The switch stage is built around the well  known 4060 IC, in which switches IC2a and  IC2d alternately pass one of the two signals to  the output. They are driven by switches IC2b and IC2c, which generate control signals that  are 180 degrees out of phase. The switching rate for the video signals is  determined by a clock signal from an ‘old  standby’ 555 IC, which causes the signals to  swap every 2 seconds with the specified com ponent values.

 

Naturally, this circuit can also used in many other situations, such as where two cameras are needed for surveillance but only one video cable is available.

Simple Six way Switch Using IC1 40106N


The 40106 is a versatile CMOS IC containing six Schmitt trigger inverters. It can be used to implement a set of alternating –action switches with hard ware contact bounce suppression.

Aside from one gate of the IC, all you need for each switch is a pushbutton, a resistor and two capacitors. It works as follows. The 1 μF capacitor at the output is charged or dis-charged via a 1 MΩ resistor, depending on the output level of the inverter.

Pressing the button causes the input level of the gate to change, which in turn causes the output level to toggle. The 10 nF capacitor determines the output state after the supply voltage is switched on. You can connect it to the supply voltage rail or the ground rail as required. If you hold the button pressed, the output signal will be a square wave with a frequency determined by the RC time constant, which is approximately 1 second.

You may experiment with the component values if you wish.

This is a simple Latch De bouncer Switch Circuit Diagram In electronics latch is a circuit that has two stable states and can be used to store state information. Although this circuit uses a 74HC74, any CMOS variant of this flip-flop will work. IC1A acts as a true/ complement buffer. RI and R2 ensure that IC1A comes out of reset before the clock`s edge occurs. R3 applies IClA`s logic state to pins 1 and 3. When the switch closes, the next logic state stored on the capacitor transfers to the flip-flop`s reset and clock inputs.

Releasing the switch lets the capacitor charge to the next state via R4. IClA`s output is the LSB; IClB`s output is the MSB. Notice that the counter`s state advances when the switch is first pressed, rather than when it`s released; the latter is the case with many other switch-debouncing schemes. You can replace RI with a 22-pF capacitor to reduce the circuit`s sensitivity to parasitic effects. The addition of this capacitor also lets you lower the magnitude of R2 and R3 by a factor of 10.

PCB Exposure Switch Timer V2 0


After some modifications on my UV exposure box (scanner) for better UV expose, i decided that a better pcb must me designed for switch timer. The old one had over drilled holes and it was designed and built on my very fist steps. Also the high voltage side from the low voltage wasn’t separated as it needed to be safe.

So i redesigned it in a more compact and easier to use pcb. The firmware has been also updated and now you can program the timmer by using the two buttons. The time is calculated by timer interrupt triggering using a 32.768KHz RTC Crystal with better accuracy. The display update also has been changed from static to dynamic. [ ]

Everyone will be familiar with those  nagging thoughts, a few miles down the  road from the house: “Did I remember  to switch off the coffee machine? The  lights? The oven?”

Hotel rooms are often equipped with a  switch near the main door which enables the power supply to everything in  the room only when the plastic card (which  might contain a chip or have a magnetic strip  or a pattern of holes) that serves as the room  key is inserted. The circuit idea given here  to switch off lights and other appliances is  along the same lines. The solution is surprisingly simple. 

A reed contact is fitted to the frame of the main entrance door, and a matching magnet  is attached to the door itself such that when  the door is closed the reed contact is also  closed. To enable power to the house, press  S1 briefly. Relay RE1 will pull in and complete  the circuit for all the AC powered appliances in  the house. The relay will be held in even after  the button is released via the second relay contact and the reed contact (‘latching’ function). 

As soon as the main entrance door is  opened, the reed contact will also open.  This in turn releases the latch circuit and  consequently the relay drops out. The  various connected appliances will thus  automatically and inevitably be switched  off as soon as the house is left. The circuit is principally designed for  small holiday homes, where this mode  of operation is particularly practical. Of course, for any circuit that deals in AC  powerline voltages, we must mention  the following caution. 

Caution:
shock hazard! Construction and connection of this circuit  should only be carried out by suitably-qualified  personnel, and all applicable electrical safety  regulations must be observed. In particular, it  is essential to ensure that the relay chosen is  appropriate for use at domestic AC grid volt-ages and is suitably rated to carry the required  current.
