LCD Module in 4 bit Mode Circuit Diagram


In many projects use is made of alphanumeric LCDs that are driven internally by Hitachi’s industry-standard HD44780 controller. These displays can be driven either in 4-bit or 8-bit mode. In the first case only the high nibble (D4 to D7) of the display’s data bus is used. The four unused connections still deserve some closer attention. The data lines can be used as either inputs or outputs for the display. It is well known that an unloaded output is fine, but that a floating high-impedance input can cause problems. So what should you do with the four unused data lines when the display is used in 4-bit mode? This question arose when a circuit was submitted to us where D0-D3 where tied directly to GND (the same applies if it was to +5 V) to stop the problem of floating inputs.

The LCD module was driven directly by a microcontroller, which was on a development board for testing various programs and I/O functions. There was a switch present for turning off the enable of the display when it wasn’t being used, but this could be forgotten during some experiments. When the R/Wline of the display is permanently tied to GND (data only goes from the microcontroller to the display) then the remaining lines can safely be connected to the supply (+ve or GND). In this application however, the R/Wline was also controlled by the microcontroller. When the display is initialised correctly then nothing much should go wrong. The data sheet for the HD44780 is not very clear as to what happens with the low nibble during initialisation.

After the power-on reset the display will always be in 8-bit mode. A simple experiment (see the accompanying circuit) reveals that it is safer to use pull-down resistors to GND for the four low data lines. The data lines of the display are configured as outputs in this circuit (R/Wis high) and the ‘enable’ is toggled (which can still happen, even though it is not the intention to communicate with the display). Note that in practice the RS line will also be driven by an I/O pin, and in our circuit the R/W line as well. All data lines become high and it’s not certain if (and if so, for how long) the display can survive with four shorted data lines. The moral of the story is: in 4-bit mode you should always tie D0-D3 via resistors to ground or positive.

8051 LCD INTERFACE


LEDs (lights), interfaced with 8051 microcontroller, can be used to display binary numbers or on/off states while Seven Segment Displays (SSD) can display digits but that's not enough. What if you wanted to display a proper message consisting of numbers, letters, characters, symbols e.t.c.? That's where LCD Screens jump in. LCDs make it convenient to display anything to the user. It may sound tricky to interface an LCD with a microcontroller but trust me or not, it's simpler than it looks and this short tutorial will make sure that you get the hold of it.

RZ26LZ55 LG LCD TV Circuit Diagram


Power unit: The power board supplies a DC voltage of 33V, 24V, 12V to the main board.out of this 33v is used by the tuner and 24v is used directly by the inverter and the sound amplifier IC. 24v also is converted into 5v by a regulator.  The 5v is changed into 3.3v and 1.8v by a regulator, both voltages(3.3v, 1.8v ) is used by VCTI, Scaler, FLI2300 and AD9883. The voltage of LCD Panel is 12v.

Video control and display data:  Video signal is received from TUNER, AV port(AV1,AV2,S-Video,Component) and goes to the one-chip video decoder (VCTI) which separate the R,G,B signal and passes on the signal to AD converter(AD9883) which converts 4:4:4 video format into digital and gives output to the Picture Enhancer(FLI2300).This picture enhancer improves the quality of the picture by changing the level of RGB signals. The output of this enhancer chip is fed to the deinterlacer ,which in turn goes to the Scalar (GM5221).The scalar gives the output on the LVDS cable which is connected to LCD module.  VCTi acts a micom and is responsible for video processing and audio signal processing. It accepts the RF signal and separates sound and picture from it.  Scaler is responsible for regulating the timing of signal to LCD panel and size and location of the signal. Graphic control accepts the PC(Analog RGB) and DVI-D (Digital ) signal, Scalar is responsible for regulating the timing of signal to LCD panel and size and location of the signal. Graphic control accepts the PC(Analog RGB) and DVI-D (Digital ) signal,the signal of PC input is connected to analog port in Scaler and the signal of DVI-D input is connected to digital port. Thus it receives two input and switch between them to give output at the LVDS which in turn gives output at the LCD module.
